Meggendorfer, L. LEBENDE BILDER. Munich: von Braun & Schneider, (1887). Elste Auflage. 12 3/4 by 9 1/4 inches in original color pictorial boards and cloth spine. Complete with 9 leaves and 8 wonderful color plates with movable parts operated by tabs. From The Ohio State University Billy Ireland Cartoon Library website: "Lothar Meggendorfer was born in Munich, Germany. During his career he illustrated over 100 books, including "mechanical toy books," or pop-up books. An illustrator and watercolorist, he drew for the German humor magazines Fliegende Blätter and Münchener Bilderbogen. He published the Meggendorfer Blätter, which featured the work of several important German artists as well as his own. He contributed work to the Chicago Tribunein 1906. Though the Tribune published only a few of his works, they show his exceptional command of line, composition, and color."
With handling wear, light soiling to covers; wear to the cloth spine, heavier at bottom. Occasional staining to facing text pages - related to metal grommets on movables. Coloring bright and strong. Overall an attractive example of a landmark children's book.Condition
