(Goldsmith, Oliver) ? THE HISTORY OF LITTLE GOODY TWO-SHOES. otherwise called Mrs. Margery Two-Shoes : with the means by which she acquired her learning and wisdom, and, in consequence thereof, her estate : set forth at large for the benefit of all those pretty little boys and girls who wish to be good and happy. Wilmington, (Del.): Printed by Peter Brynberg, 1796. 4 by 2 1/2 inches in contemporary paper over boards with sheep spine. Complete in 127 (1) pp. with 29 woodcut illustrations (the frontis illus. repeated in the text). A rare American illustrated juvenile, first published in London by John Newbery in 1765, and often attributed to Oliver Goldsmith. This is the 7th American Edition, having been previously printed in New York (1775), Boston (1783), Philadelphia (1786), Worcester (1787), and by Brynberg in Wilmington (1793). EVANS, 32257; WELSH 463.7; ROSENBACH 212. Housed in custom woven cloth clamshell box with printed paper label to the spine.

Marks, Smithfield, (ca. 1850). 6 3/4 by 4 1/4 inches in printed pictorial wrappers, sewn. 14 pp. with richly hand-colored illustrations. Housed in a matching custom woven cloth foldover chemise with a gilt printed paper label to the upper cover.
With intermittent spotting to pages; small closed tear to lower image of the frontis; otherwise solid and sound. Second work with closed tear to one illustration; general wear but Good.Condition
