- Lot Description
Lot of 2 silver gelatin press photographs related to Charles Lindbergh, featuring one of the first news photographs documenting Lindy in Paris. The photograph, 8 x 6 in., captures the "Spirit of St. Louis" fenced off from the curious mob at Le Bourget Airdrome. Handstamp and typed label on verso with credit to International Newsreel Photo, New York City, June 6, 1927.
Composite news photograph, 10 x 8 in., with Charles and Anne Lindbergh at center surrounded by "intimate glimpses" of their kidnapped son, Charles Jr. Typed label on verso with credit to International Newsreel Photo, and handstamped dates March 12-13, 1932. Additional credit for the movie clips of Charles Jr. given to Hearst Metrotone News. Newspaper printing of the composite photo also mounted on verso. A powerful news photo published soon after the Lindbergh baby was captured, appropriately captioned, "Two Famous People...with one thought...their baby."
Condition
"Spirit of St. Louis" photo with some light rippling along right and left edges. Otherwise very fine.
Lindbergh baby photo, with retouched details for publication. Some light rippling along right and left edges. Few creases in print. Publisher notes in lower margin.
Repairs to one end. Some dye runs.
