- Lot Description
.25RF, 3.25" hexagonal barrel, bright and blued finish, with checkered ivory scales. Measures 6.5" overall close, with 3.5" spear point knife blade and a 3.5" clip-point knife blade with a 2.75" false edge. Both blades are marked NON XLL / UNWIN & / RODGERS / PATENT on their ricassos. The gunmetal barrel is marked NON*XLL on the obverse and UNWIN & RODGERS / PATENTEES SHEFFIELD on the reverse. The knife-pistol is contained in its original casing, with a gold embossed red Moroccan leather lining in the lid that includes the English coat of arms and a additionally reads in four lines: BY HER MAJESTY'S ROYAL LETTERS PATENT / THE CELEBRATED PISTOL KNIFE, / INVENTED AND MANUFACTURED BY / UNIWIN AND RODGERS. The casing is lined in with a reddish-orange baize material and includes the following accessories: an ivory patch contatiner with patches, an ivory tipped copper cleaning rod, a James Dixon & Sons marked pewter oil bottle, a key for the case and 39 original .25RF copper cartridges in the cartridge block, all headstamped "D". A really wonderful cased set that you simply don't see every day.
Fine overall. Knife blades very good and in bright condition with crisp markings. Barrel with a dull patina, breech and hammer retain some blue. Action need some mechanical attention, as the breechblock will not stay closed on its own and the folding trigger does not appear to have correct tension ivory scales in very good condition with some minor chipping and loss around one of the pins behind the hammer. Case and accessories very good to fine. A simply wonderful set.Condition
