- Lot Description
Albumen cabinet card, lightly hand colored, showing the Mescalero Apache chief seated in studio, wearing a fringed jacket and leggings, flat-brimmed hat, epaulets, peace medal, and holding a Winchester rifle. With identification in the negative "Meritazilla, Mescalera Apache Chief," though that name is found in no Apache histories and the subject of the photograph is identified elsewhere as Nautzili (Natzili, Nodzilla). Uncredited but possibly by A. Frank Randall. Ca 1886.
Condition
Toning and edge wear, with a water stain in the lower left corner.
Repair to bottom. Denting to foot. Several cracks.
