- Lot Description
Richard Cook (American / Texas, b. 1934). A bronze bust of Hondo Crouch, mayor of Lukenbach, Texas, on a wooden base, bronze signed, dated 1977, and numbered 1 of 1 on reverse; oah. 14.75 (including base), bronze ht. 12.75 in.
Crouch purchased Lukenbach in 1970 and transformed what was then deemed a ghost town into a Texan folklore and country music center. Crouch formed bonds with Willie Nelson and Jerry Jeff Walker, who visited and performed in Lukenbach regularly. Until his death in 1976, Crouch maintained the town as a place that "attracted all sort of people - hippies, hopeful musicians, and members of the middle class who, living in cities, felt alienated from the 'real' Texas." At the request of the buyer, Cowan's will authorize the shipment of purchased items. Shipments usually occur within two weeks after payment has been received.
