British, likely 17th century. Oil on canvas, housed in a wooden frame. A portrait of a man, purportedly Walter Jago. With partially legible inscription in the top left corner identifying the sitter as Walter Jago / at 22 yrs of ??? / Born at Dartmouth / Died 1682. A hand-written label on the reverse of the canvas further indicates that Walter Jago was born in 1632 and that the painting was Given By A. Holdsworth, Esqr. M. P., unsigned; 35.5 x 28.25 in. (sight), 41 x 33.75 in. (frame).
