- Lot Description
.75 caliber, 39" round, pinned barrel, bright finish, brass furniture walnut stock. Round tailed flintlock marked TOWER in an arc to the rear with a [CROWN]/GR forward of the hammer and a small Crown-Broad Arrow. Barrel with post-1813 Birmingham commercial proofs, with an "12" gauge mark, oddly the barrel is additionally stamped with two Crown-Broad Arrow Board of Ordnance marks, not normally found on commercial barrels. Barrel marked 42 REG. Stock with raised, carved apron around rounded breech tang, and a weak retailer cartocuhe on the obverse butt. Oddly the musket is equipped with four, rather than the normal three ramrod pipes for an India Pattern type musket. Includes iron ramrod. The gun appears to be a late production commercial trade musket (ca 1820-1830) that may have been acquired on the open market by the British military for issue to local colonial troops in India, or some similar location.
Very good. Metal smoothly oxidized, markings mostly clear. Mechanically functional, good bore. Stock with bumps and dings and a major repair at the toe.Condition
