.60 caliber smoothbore, 40" barrel retained by three flat bands, no S/N. Bright finish, walnut stock. Bridesburg contract marked lock, dated 1863 at rear, no date visible on breech, weak proofs on barrel. Correct 1861 pattern rear sight, musket front sight/bayonet lug, swelled shank, tulip head ramrod. Sling swivels with US M1857 pattern sling. The initials " CH " are carved in the reverse butt. A modern brass plaque is attached to the obverse butt that reads: ABNER FOREST / CO. K / 141 ST INFANTRY / PENNA VOL. / TABLET 61 PENNA. VOL. Some accompanying genealogical paper is included, but no substantiating provenance that this was Abner Forest's gun.
