American (Boston, Massashusetts), ca 1830-1860. A coin silver tea service by Newell Harding & Co. consisting of two teapots, a creamer, lidded sugar and waste bowl, all marked N. Harding & Co. / Coin / Boston. Each piece with engraved decoration of grape clusters and leaves, and rising on scaled claw feet, the lidded pieces with acorn finials. All monogrammed, the teapots with ivory insulators. Lot includes an associated silverplated tray, unmarked; tray lg. 30.5, wd. 20 in., teapot oah. 7.75 in. (each), coin silver wt. 97.91ozt (3045g) (including insulators).
The service is monogrammed EFF, for Evelyn Fessenden Freeman (1833-1896), descendant of Edmund Freeman (1596-1682), an early settler of Massachusetts. She was married to Edward Clark (1822-1902), who served as Architect of the Capitol from 1865 until his death.
Some denting to creamer. Dents to interior rim of sugar lid. Dent to side of one teapot. Minor surface scratches to each.
