Framed display, 17.5 x 21 in. overall. Top with copy of Bonnie and Clyde's Wanted poster, and ad for a movie about the outlaws, promising pictures taken immediately after their deaths. Below is a typed note signed by James Mullen stating that he had taken the calendar out of Clyde's car as a souvenir, and vouching that the writing on the pages was that of Clyde Barrow, as "...he was known briefly to me a few years ago."
Beside that are two 1933 calendar pages. One for October 1 (indexed for "1") has "Bonnie Birthday" in red pencil at the top. The other for March 21 with "your Clyde's Birthday" in red at top.
James Mullen was a three-time loser who was with Barrow in Eastham prison for a short time before both were released. Barrow, Mullen, and Floyd Hamilton orchestrated a prison break for Floyd's brother Raymond Hamilton out of the same prison. Barrow did not entirely trust Mullen. It is reported that he kept Mullen in sight during most of the preparation for the break. It was a partial success. In early 1934, Ray Hamilton (along with a few "friends") was free thanks to the efforts of Mullen, his brother, and Clyde Barrow. However, police recaptured Raymond a few days later. Mullen and Barrow crossed paths on a couple of occasions, so it is entirely possible that Mullen had access to Barrow's car, where he claims to have acquired these pages.
A bit of toning to calendar pages, otherwise excellent.
