American, 19th century. A carved frame in blue paint with decorative heart-shaped appliques, containing a paper flower cut-out reading No. 11 / Anna Mary Quickel / January the 7th A.D. 1853, and an early still life in watercolor and ink, housed in an early frame; blue frame 16.75 x 15 in., still life 4.5 x 5.75 in. (sight), 7.25 x 8.5 in. (frame).
The 1860 records list Anna Quickel, aged 34, living in York, Pennsylvania.
According to notation on verso, the still life is from the collection of Mary Thornton and is attributed to an Emma Cady. A similar piece is a part of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Collection.
