- Lot Description
American, second half 19th century. A painted wooden whirligig in the form of an African American soldier wearing a Confederate artillery uniform, on a later wooden stand and base; ht. 15 in. (including base).
Condition
Some surface wear including scratches, scuffs, and paint loss as would be expected with age and use. Age cracks on head near right and left temples. Damage to right eye and areas of chest and torso. Repair to right leg. Missing arms. Some oxidation to metal washers and foot support. Stand is later.
