Denver Tribune. Denver, CO: August 4, 1882. Vol. XVI, No. 216. 8pp, 18 x 22.5 in.
Featuring front page report on a meeting between Sheriff Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid's half brother, Joe Antrim.
The headline of the article reads, "Peaceable meeting between a brother of Billy the Kid and Sheriff Pat Garrett." A year earlier, Pat Garrett shot notorious outlaw Billy the Kid after he escaped from prison to avenge the killing of Sheriff William Brady. Gossip magazines and newspapers reported that The Kid's half brother, Joe Antrim, swore to avenge his brother's death and kill the man responsible. Garrett and Antrim met in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and, "Antrim talked over the killing with Garrett, said he never threatened, and finally the two shook hands and parted on friendly terms." Later on, Antrim claimed he never made such a threat and had no ill feelings towards the sheriff for his brother's death.
