(17th C. Bible in Dutch) BIBLIA DAT IS DE GANTSCHE H. SCHRIFTURE, vervattende alle de canonijcke boecken des Ouden en des Nieuwen Testaments. Door last der Hoogh-Mog : Heeren Staten Generael vande Vereenighde Nederlanden en volgens het besluyt vande Synode Nationael, gehouden tot Dordrecht inde jaren 1618 ende 1619, uyt de oorspronckelicke talen in onse Nederlandsche tale getrouwelick overgeset. Met nieuwe bygevoeghde verklaringen op de duystere plaetsen, aenteeckeningen vande gelyck-luydende texten ende nieuwe register over beyde de Testamenten. Ende door gemeene ordre der Nederlandsche kercken verbetert van drucksouten en misstellingen die in den eersten druck gevonde worden. Dordrecht, H. en J. Keur; Amsterdam, M. Doornick in compagnie, 1682. 18 by 11 inches and 5 inches thick in a contemporary tooled full leather over wooden boards with heavy brass cornerpieces and working brass clasps. 4 parts in 1 volume with engraved title., 5 double-page engraved maps (incl. fine map of the world by Stoopendael), 1 double-page engraved plan of Jerusalem and 80 biblical scenes of the series by Danckerts after Merian on 5 double-p. plates (publ. by De Wit). The illustrations with contemporary hand coloring.
Tape repairs/shoring-up the head and tail of the spine; title page and 2 preliminary pages restored and laid-down; a few leaves with old tape repairs. Some restoration and rebacking to the double page hinged color plates, although they are still bright and strong and "show" well. Brass clasps in excellent working order. Hinges cracked and with some loosening to the binding. In all, based on a survey of auction records over the past 15 years, a better than average example of this massive and impressive Dutch Illustrated Bible.Condition
