Lot Description

Calvin, John. A COMMENTARIE UPON S. PAULES EPISTLES TO THE ROMANES WRITTEN BY M. JOHN CALVIN. London: Printed for John Harrison and George Byshop, 1577. (Title page is in facsimile bound in.) 7 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches in a 19th century full leather with 3 raised bands. Begins with C2 and ends with Cc3, 203 leaves. The Christopher Rosdell translation from the Latin of John Calvin. Printed in Black Letter with Printed annotations in the margins.

Condition

With professional paper restoration to 5 preliminary leaves and restoration to the margin of Gg5. The title page is a high quality facsimile on early paper. The joints are worn and the upper cover is just holding on. There are occasional early ink manuscript notes in the margins; some modest dampstaining, though the contents are generally clean.
