- Lot Description
American, 19th century. A reverse painting on glass of Betsy L. Richmond by Benjamin Greenleaf (Massachusetts/New Hampshire, 1769-1821). Framed; 12.5 x 8 in. (sight).
A hand-painted inscription on the backboard of the frame reads Betsy L. Richmond / Born September 25 1799 / AE 11 years. Present- / Painted by Benjn Greenleaf / February the 17 1811. An additional pencil inscription on the backboard reads This picture was Sister Hannah when she was / 5 years old but this frame belongs to / Sister Betsys picture which was broken.
