Flat beveled flint lock with chiseled decorations depicting panoplies of arms, with tail of lock and flat swan-necked cock engraved en-suite , all enhanced with gold gilding. Fenced, faceted and bridled removable iron pan is original to the lock, which remains in original flint configuration, although the top jaw and screw are high quality modern replacements. Touchhole is installed in a large spanner screw, allowing it to be removed and replaced as it eroded and wore. Acton with double set triggers, fixed and folding leaf rear sight, dovetailed German silver front sight surrounded by gilt decorations as well. Brass furniture with raised decorative motifs showing game and forest scenes and typical of Bavaria and the Black Forest. Stock with sliding wood patch box and with raised carvings throughout, with floral and shell motifs around the breech plug tang, and tastefully decorating the edges of the raised cheek rest, moldings around the lock and around the entry pipe on the forend. Forend with incised lines and simple decorations, a single brass faceted ramrod thimble and brass entry pipe decorated with the same raised motifs as the balance of the furniture. Brass tipped wooden ramrod with iron wiper at the end may be original to the rifle. A really attractive, high quality and highly embellished Bavarian hunting rifle from the second quarter of the 18th century. Paul Linehart was a gunmaker who worked during the first half of the 18th century, initially in Vienna ca 1707, and later in Munchen (Munich, Bavaria) through about 1750. (Der Neue Stockel)
