13.9mm, 37.5" barrel secured by three barrel bands, blued finish, beech stock. Lock marked 863, indicating original manufacture in 1863. Originally an Austrian M-1862 Lorenz perucussion rifle musket, then altered to breechloader by the Wanzl system, and then reconverted to percussion in Belgium for the African trade by adding a cast iron breech with percussion bolster, retaining the offset Wanzl hammer. Retains the Wanzl rear sight, and front sight/bayonet lug. Approximately 2.5" of the bore closest to the muzzle has been smoothed to .58 (to assist in loading?), the rest of the barrel retains the original .547 rifling. Retains the lower sling swivel, upper missing, and has an incorrect ramrod. An Austrian M-1854 socket bayonet and scabbard are included.
