A note in a 2004 appraisal from Sotheby's indicates that: "A letter from Henry F. Marsh, July 28, 1970, states that this painting is recorded in 1871, vol. 1, p. 124: no. 22. Two dogs (pointer and setter) and quail. 14 x 22 inches. By Bogardus ro be NEZ/-/NETT. Paid May 30, '71". However, the owners did not retain any documentation pertaining to the aforementioned information.

Patched and some in-painting spots in sky, background and along rabbet lines (the dogs look intact). Wear to frame c.r. (visible on reverse).
