- Lot Description
Silver gelatin photograph, 8 x 10 in., copyrighted lower right in negative, "Underwood & Underwood, NY / From Elliott Service Co., NY." Accompanied by 6.25 x 14 in. printed caption, describing the scene as "Miss Annie Oakley...giving a demonstration at the Pinehurst Golf Club. She is shooting oranges off the head of her dog 'Captain Davis'", with additional credit to "Underwood & Underwood, News Photographs." Considered the precursors to later 8 x 10 in. wire and press photos, large format images such as this, which were made from World War I-period negatives, were distributed to news services and made available to the public along with the over-sized printed captions.
Very good to near excellent condition except for minor flaws/surface loss in the top margin.Condition
