Glacial Kame Culture / Late Archaic Period, 4000-1500 B.C.
Miami County, Ohio
4-7/8 in.Made from dark, brown-banded slate and crafted with a beautifully long neck and a graceful line which traces from head to tail.
This birdstone has been well documented. The finder, George C. Kiefer, of Dayton, Ohio, discovered this birdstone on the John Raynor farm, west of Piqua, Ohio, in 1924. Kiefer retained it in the family collection for many years.Publications:
