Glacial Kame Culture / Late Archaic Period, 4000-1000 B.C.
Auglaize County, Ohio
6 in.Formed using a unique and attractive dark red, banded slate. The natural banding of the slate enhances the finished form. The tail is slightly expanding. The eyes are slightly nodular and on the left side, the eye aligns with the natural concentric circle formed by the banding of the slate. This purposeful, prehistoric sculpting, makes this a fine and elegant example.
This birdstone was found by Ernie Blank in 1913, near the town of New Knoxville in Auglaize County Ohio.
