- Lot Description
Glacial Kame Culture, Late Archaic Period, 3000-500 B.C.
Mercer County, Ohio
length 6.5 in.Formed from highly banded, green slate; with a long narrow head pointing straight forward on a forward angled neck. The tail, also angled low and to the rear, gives the overall form a suggestion of speed. When viewed from above, the concentric circle banding radiates from the top of the head and flows outward over the rest of the body.
This piece was discovered by Jan Sorgenfrei at an estate auction not far from its place of discovery near Lake St. Mary’s. An old tag affixed to the base possibly indicates the date of its discovery (9/62).Publications:
