Harris, Thaddeus Mason. A JOURNAL OF A TOUR INTO THE TERRITORY NORTHWEST OF THE ALLEGHANY MOUNTAINS MADE IN THE SPRING OF THE YEAR 1803. WITH A GEOGRAPHICAL AND HISTORICAL ACCOUNT OF THE STATE OF OHIO; WITH ORIGINAL MAPS AND VIEWS. Boston: Manning and Loring, 1805. 9 1/4 by 5 3/4 inches in a modern woven cloth binding with printed cloth label to spine. 271pp, 2 maps, 3 plans, pages untrimmed. Howes H-233. Maps include (1) Map of Alleghany, Monongahela & Yohiogany Rivers; (2) Map of State of Ohio (By Rufus Putnam), thought to be the first published map after this section of the NW Territory became the 17th state on March 1,1803; (3) map of the military reserves in NE Ohio (Western Reserve); Plus plans of the city of Marietta and a bird's-eye view of prehistoric earthworks along the Muskingum River (appears to be the Marietta Works).
Early owner's name to endpage; Maps 1 and 2 with heavy foxing; evidence of tape removal prior to restoration and reinforced with tissue rebacking; Map 3 shows foxing and tissue reinforcement. 2 views with heavy foxing.Condition
