Heath, Laban. HEATH'S GREATLY IMPROVED, ENLARGED & INFALLIBLE GOVERNMENT COUNTERFEIT DETECTOR, AT SIGHT. The Only Infallible Method of detecting counterfeit, Spurious, and Altered Bank Notes, Government Bonds, etc. Boston and Washington, D.C.: By Laban Heath, (1867). 2nd Edition. 10 by 7 3/4 inches deluxe presentation copy in in gilt tooled full morocco binding with the name of the Secretary of the Treasury, Hon. Hugh McCulloch, in gilt on the upper cover and a calligraphic presentation to him "compliments of the Author," on a front blank page. This is the larger format version of the book, complete in 39 text pages and with 16 plates including two with color tinting. Laban Heath (1837 - 1894) was born in Bow, New Hampshire and published his first "Counterfeit Detector" in 1864. Hugh McCulloch (1808 -1895) served under 3 Presidents as Secretary of the Treasury - Abraham Lincoln; Andrew Johnson; and years later under Chester A. Arthur.
Two of the plates have separated from the binding; and there is rubbing to the joints and the front hinge is cracked. Still, an attractive example in a deluxe presentation binding.Condition
