- Lot Description
Cassini, Giovanni Maria (1745-1824). Noted Italian geographer, globe maker, and cartographer. "MARE DEL NORD." 21.75 x 14.75 in. Rome: 1797. Hand-colored map was originally part of Cassini's multi-sheet map of Colonial North America. Illustrates the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Nova Scotia, and reflects the border between Canada and present-day Maine. Decorative title cartouche features scenic view of the water with two men extending hands outward as if in discovery. From the Nuovo Atlante Geografico Universale.
Framed. Not removed for examination. Visible center vertical fold. Light overall toning. Multiple nickel to quarter size soil spots not affecting readability of text. Minor loss bottom right corner.Condition
