Printed broadside, 18 x 24.5 in. All About Alaska The Klondike Gold Fields and the Wonderful Talking Machine To The Klondike and Return... Chicago: Sears, Roebuck, n.d. [1898].
An unusual broadside issued by Sears promoting the Alaskan gold fields (and the equipment needed to travel to the Klondike) as well as the newly invented talking machine.
The highly graphic advertisement describes a "Grand Illustrated Lecture...featuring 50 Magnificent Views Projected from the Magic Lantern," including a map of Alaska, important coast towns, Dawson City, the Yukon River, the steamboats, the Indians, the miners, sluice and hydraulic mining, gold mills, a dog train with sleds, etc. Featuring a large illustration of a miner panning for gold. The poster also advertises a high-class Musical Programme that will accompany the lecture, and features a depiction of people enjoying themselves while listening to a "Talking Machine...one of the Most Wonderful Inventions."
Condition
Very light toning along right and left margins. Otherwise clean, near excellent condition.
Pendulum replaced.
