Condition
In addition to having been relined, the painting was significantly retouched, as a black light examination revealed. There are a few areas of in-painting on the figure, although most of the in-painting is located around it. The relining probably happened during the 19th century. The stretcher appears to be 19th century, as it is composed of parts that were likely machine-made, and it appears to have been aged on purpose, as does the reverse of the newer canvas. Wear to the frame, with moldings coming loose and a few small losses.
