Lot Description

Albumen photograph, 15.25 x 13.5 in., on 16 x 15 in. on mount. A formal studio portrait of an African American baseball team from Middletown, NY. Ca 1890. With inked inscriptions on mount below photograph identifying the manager and each member of the team. The players, wearing jerseys bearing the name of the team sponsor, Wilcox & Draper, pose with baseball bats and protective gear. A young man in the back row, second from left, displays a baseball in his hand.

Condition

Spotting on the photograph as well as a tear on the top center margin as well as more damage and cracking to the mount.
