- Lot Description
Printed certificate, 10 x 14 in., with gilt lettering at top, embossed NSDAP eagle and swastika. Berlin, September 12, 1940. For Kurt Sauer to the position of government director. Manuscript translation on verso. With Hitler's printed signature and signature of "in Vertretung des Reichsministers des Innern" [Representing the Minister of the Interior].
We have not been able to identify this person, but he signed many documents. At the time, many civil appointments went through the Ministry of the Interior, including state governors and mayors of all towns larger than 100,000 (other than Berlin and Hamburg). Governors, who were appointed by him, in turn appointed mayors of smaller towns. In 1940, the position was held by Wilhelm Frick, who was replaced in 1943 by Heinrich Himmler. Frick was convicted of war crimes in the Nuremberg Trials and hanged.

Very good. Minor surface soil along folds on verso.
