- Lot Description
Partially printed land grant issued for military service, 16 x 10 in., secretarially signed "Abraham Lincoln" by W.O. Stoddard, June 1, 1861. Warrant No. 19237 was issued to "Diego Martin Private Captain Quinn's Company New Mexico Volunteers Apache Indian Disturbances...the said warrant having been assigned by the said Diego Martin to Soliff Alexson in whose favor said tract has been located" for land "in the District of of Lands Subject to Sale at Saint Peter, Minnesota: Containing One Hundred and Sixty Acres." Land Grant Office white wafer seal intact at lower left.
An 1855 Act of Congress granted bounty-land warrants for service in Indian Wars fought from 1790 up until the Civil War. The Apache Indian Disturbances, also known as the Apache Wars, were a series of conflicts fought in the Southwest between the Apache and the US Army from the period of 1849 through approximately 1886.
Condition
Slight toning, especially along edge lines. Small water stain bottom right edge line not affecting text. Inked notes handwritten on back of document.
Item is in good condition.
