Middle Archaic Period, 8000-5000 B.C.
Miami County, Ohio
length 5 in.
Green-banded slate with dark, highly contrasting bands. Although Jan identified this bannerstone as being from Knox County, Ohio, in Legends of Prehistoric Art, it is clearly from Miami County as noted on the old painted label.
The Pick Bannerstone type has been divided into two general categories, the Straight Pick and the Curved Pick. This is an excellent example of the Curved Pick. It is one of the four fine Pick Bannerstones represented in the Sorgenfrei Collection.

Legends of Prehistoric Art, Onken, 2011, pg. 544
Provenance: From the Collection of Jan Sorgenfrei, Findlay, Ohio
