- Lot Description
.45-70, 20" heavy round barrel, S/N 159051. Blued and case hardened finish, plain walnut stock, forend secured by two barrel bands. Barrel marked with the Old Reliable trademark and SHARPS RIFLE CO BRIDGEPORT, CONN. Barrel is also marked CAL 45 at breech. Bottom of barrel and tang sight with serial numbers matching the receiver. Lawrence patent carbine rear sight, dovetailed globe front sight, "German Pattern" folding mid-range rang sight. Standard Bridgeport production carbine barrels were 25"; this gun was likely a custom order with the very short 20" barrel. The muzzle of the barrel is crowned.
Good. Metal heavily oxidized with scattered surface corrosion and some pitting. Mechanically functional, bore good, but shows some pitting. Stock well worn, with numerous dings and mars, some wood loss along the top edge of the forend and some longitudinal grain cracks along the wrist and into the butt. A salty and well used Sharps that is still probably worthy of a factory letter to see where it was shipped and if it left the factory in this configuration.Condition
