Manuscript vellum document, 2pp, 27.5 x approx. 24 in. and 27 x 22 in. Indenture in clerical hand, 12 April 1762, presume London, with "peppercorn rent" clause. Signature and wax seal of Edward Morant where two pages connected by a tab.
"Between Edward Morant of Great George Street in the Parish of Saint George Hanover Square in the County of Middlesex and Kingdom of Great Britain and also of the parish of Clarendon in the Island of Jamaica in the West Indies Esquire of the one part and Henry Dawkins of Arlington Street in the Parish of Saint George Hanover Square aforesaid and also of the said Parish of Clarendon in Jamaica Esquire, William Gale of the Parish of Vere in the said Island of Jamaica Esquire now in London and William Nedham of the same parish and Island Esquire of the other part. Witnesseth the said Edward Morant for and in consideration of the sum of ten shillings lawful money....All that plantation or Sugar Work commonly called or known by the Name of Pindaro River or by whatsoever other name or names the same is or hath been called or known situate lying and being in the parish of Clarendon in the said Island of Jamaica and all... dwelling houses Mill houses Boiling houses curing houses edifices and buildings and all Negroe and other Slaves with ... every of their offspring ...[which] are for greater certainty enumerated in the schedule hereunto annexed... from the Day next before the day of the date of these presents....unto the full end and term of one whole year from thence next ensuing and fully to be compleat and ended Yielding and Paying therefore unto the said Edward Morant his heirs and assigns the Rent of one Pepper Corn on the last day of the said Term..."
