Manuscript document, 1p, 7 x 11.25 in. March 5, 1657. Indenture in which William Yates sells his house and lands to Thomas Bushmore. Both gentlemen were residents of Hempstead (Heemstede in the 1640s), originally settled by Dutch immigrants in the western portion of Long Island. Split into "Loyalist/Tory" and "Revolutionary" segments during the American Revolution, part of the town seceded and joined the Borough of Queens when it formed at the end of the 19th century. There does not appear to be a formal description of the property in this indenture, as later documents have, so we are not certain in which part of Hempstead this property laid.
Many old folds and handling wear. Slight water stains along right edge.
