DESCRIPTION: Robert Riggs (American, 1896-1970). Lithograph. Accident Ward. Circa 1940. Depicts an African American man being restrained on a medical table while doctor's work on him. Under white matting in a wood frame. Born in Decatur, Illinois, Robert Riggs studied at the James Milliken University in Illinois, followed by the Art Students League in New York. His studies were interrupted by Army service in World War I. He remained overseas to study at the Academie Julian in Paris, then returned to the United States. He settled in Philadelphia and began working for N.W. Ayer & Sons advertising agency. MEASUREMENTS: 7-1/2" x 10". Overall with frame 14-1/2" x 17". CONDITION: Toning to lighter parts of image, light surface wear. Light surface wear to frame. UPDATE: Lithography is pencil signed to lower right and is laid down (see additional images).
