DESCRIPTION: Early 19th century folk art portrait of an artist (possibly a self-portrait) depicted seated with brush and palette, working on still life of flowers. Open window at rear left. Oil on canvas. Unsigned. In wood frame. Marked verso with illegible signature and "1844". MEASUREMENTS: 31-3/4" x 26-3/4". Overall with frame 40" x 35-1/4". CONDITION: Cracquelure throughout surface of canvas. Toning and yellowing to varnish throughout. Losses to painting around edges where canvas meets frame. Wear to frame, losses to gold paint, spotting and pitting. Chips throughout. Separation where corners meet.
