Biography: One of the most important painter of Russian Realism, Pyotr Petrovich Konchalovsky first attended the Maria-Rajewskaja-Ivanova drawing school in Kharkov and then the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In Paris he studied at the Académie Julian from 1896 to 1898 under Jean-Paul Laurens and Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant and later at the Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg. He traveled to Italy, France and Spain. From 1908 onwards Konchalovsky took part in various exhibitions and was a member of several artists' groups. In Paris, he exhibited his works at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants. In 1911 he was one of the founders of the Russian artist group 'Jack of Diamonds', one of the most important groups of the Russian avant-garde. In the 1920s he worked as an art teacher and received commissions as a set designer. In 1922 his first solo exhibition was held at the Tretyakov Gallery.
