Biography: Marinus Johannes Drulman (de Jongere) was born in the Netherlands in 1912. He lived in Amsterdam most of his life. An impressionist painter, de Jongere is well known for his dramatic images of the Harbor at Rotterdam during its shipping glory days in the early 50's and 60's. He was highly skilled at depicting all of the harbors' intricacies and activity. His paintings are in some very important collections. In the late 1950's and early 1960's he painted 28 shipping images for the wealthy shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. These images depicted all of the ships in Onassis' fleet. In the early 1960's he was visited in his studio by United States President Lyndon Johnson. Johnson ended up buying five of his paintingsâ€Ã‚¦some of which were later displayed in the White House. As a result his works made their way into the collections of many important United States European diplomats. Drulman (de Jongere) has a very strong auction record with the European offices of Sotheby's and Christies auction houses. Drulman (de Jongere) died in the Netherlands in 1978.
