J. Lewis "Lew" Barkalow (1875-1960)

This shorebird decoy is stamped "LB" by the maker on both sides of the bird. The underside bears a "Mackey Collection" stamp. This is the finest Barkalow carving to come to auction with its exceptional paint, drop tail, high head, and impeccable provenance. When it last sold it set a world record for any Barkalow decoy at auction. "His pride in the result is proven by the initials 'L.B.,' impressed on each one." - William J.
