Rare Mackey Godwit
c. 1900

This large carving bears a trace of a Mackey stamp on the underside. Adele Earnest published this decoy as a godwit in her "American Bird Decoys" book; the bill has since been spun to curve down. A rigmate godwit was published in William Mackey's book.
Old paint with heavy gunning wear, including some chipping at face where bill was turned.
