Long-Billed Curlew

This large curlew or "Chiurlo Maggiore" as it was called in Italy, was found near Venice on the island of Burano by Joseph B. French. The Italians, who used this decoy guided Earnest Hemingway (1899-1961) who likely shot over it.
Original paint with gunning wear and crack to underside.
