- Lot Description
James Walter Folger (1851-1918), Nantucket, MA, 1911
A relief carving on board, signed and dated lower left "James Walter Folger 1911 Nantucket, Mass." Also signed on the back: "Hand Carved Duck Panel of Shell Drake also painted in oil colors by James Walter Folger Nantucket, MASS. Oct. 1911." Several examples of Folger's work currently reside in the Nantucket Whaling Museum. Very few of Folger's carving ever come to market and this example reveals his great sense of artistry in all aspects.
Condition
Original paint with minor wear, a few age lines in the plaque bordering the lower portion of the carving, and scattered touch-up.
