An important carving by this famed maker who worked alongside the Ward Brothers in their Crisfield shop. Inspired by a painting by John A. Ruthven (b. 1924), Lawson carved a pair of life-size, full-bodied quail flying past a half-carved raised sumac bush with painted grasses in the background. Signed and dated by the maker in the lower right corner.
