In Newfoundland, Audubon writes, “None of my party observed an individual of the species [Numenius longirostris, Long-billed Curlew] in the course of our three months’ stay in the country, although we saw great numbers of the true Esquimaux Curlew, N. borealis...I have never seen them searching for berries on elevated lands, as the Esquimaux Curlews are wont to do.”
