A. G. Fox Rig Plover
Massachusetts 1880
A tack-eyed golden plover in spring emerging plumage with a screw eye for stringing. A serifed "A. G. FOX" is painted on the underside of the tail. According to decoy author Russ Goldberger, "Only two examples from this rig are known to be signed."
Decoys by this maker have long been admired by collectors, and a rigmate curlew recently sold for over $100,000. A rigmate is held in the collection of the American Folk Art Museum in New York. Original paint with minor wear.
