Arp, Jean, Fisch (Fish), original woodcut, bound-in as the frontispiece to the book Behaarte Herzen, 1923-1926; Konige vor der Sintflut, 1952-1953, as originally issued, the impression measures 6 x 7.75 inches, and the full sheet 10 x 8 inches, the book is a First Edition, numbered on the colophon as 92 of 100 copies of the deluxe edition, from the total run of 600; (the deluxe edition originally included a second woodcut that was signed by Arp; unfortunately it is lacking in this copy), published by Meta Verlag in Frankfurt, Germany, German Text, 52 pp. A stunning and quite rare Dada woodcut by Jean Arp, one of only 600 printed, bound into a book of his poetry whose title translates into English as Hairy Hearts. This book, including the woodcut, is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Object Number 34.1956.1-2.
Condition
The woodcut is in fine condition, showing only minor toning to the margins; the book itself is in Very Good condition: small ding to the spine including a small area of paper loss there; very faint toning to the edges of the paper throughout; the front inner hinge is a bit cracked toward the front of the book.
