Zaage, Herman (American, 1927-2008), Group of 20 block prints: 6 prints for The Seasons of the Mind, 1965, block prints on thin handmade paper, each signed, titled, dated and marked Artist's Proof in pencil to lower margin, sheet sizes mostly 22 x 17 inches or slightly smaller, all unframed. These images were made for the book Seasons of the Mind by Arlene Zekowski, published by George Wittenborn for their Archives of Modern Literature Series. WITH 7 prints for The Unconscious Victorious, 1965, block prints on thin handmade paper, each signed, titled, dated and marked Artist's Proof in pencil to lower margin, sheet sizes mostly 18 x 17 inches or slightly taller, all unframed. These images were made for the book The Unconscious Victorious by Stanley Berne, published by George Wittenborn for their Archives of Modern Literature Series. WITH In the books, the prints were reproduced in facsimile in a much smaller format. WITH 7 prints made for two different book projects, 4 for Multiple Modern Gods and 3 for Abraxas, 1964, block prints on thin handmade paper, each signed, titled, dated and marked Artist's Proof in pencil to lower margin, sheet sizes 12.5 x 18.5 inches, all unframed. These images were made for 2 books: Multiple Modern Gods by Stanley Berne, and Abraxas by Arlene Zekowski. Both were published by George Wittenborn for their Archives of Modern Literature Series. These are early works by Zaage, combining text and imagery. Herman Zaage was born in Jersey City and studied in WPA workshops in the 1940s, eventually working closely with printmaker John Ross.In good condition overall; a few with foxing.
