Mitchell, Joan (American, 1925-1992), Sam Francis (American, 1923-1994) and Walasse Ting (Chinese/American, 1929-2010), Fresh Air School Portfolio, 1972, complete with 3 original color lithographs, one by each of the artists, number 14 of 30 sets that are signed by all three artists, Ting and Francis have signed and numbered their print in the bottom right corner, Mitchell's signature appears in blue ink on the first page of text in her section (i.e., not on the color litho itself), the color lithos are double-page and measure 15 x 22 inches. Published by the Museum of Art, Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh; color lithos printed by Maeght, Paris; introductory text by the museum's director Leon A. Arkus. The portfolio is complete, including text sections and many black and white illustrations, all housed in the original blue covers; pages loose, as issued. One of only 30 signed sets of this portfolio that Arkus set aside for friends of the museum. Provenance: from the estate of Leon and Jane Arkus.
Condition
In nearly fine condition; bright, bold colors; each litho with vertical fold down the middle as originally issued, absolutely minimal signs of handling at the corners; minor soil visible to the edge of the rear cover and last page of text.
